Melonie Bayl-Smith is a director of Liquid Architecture and founded the practice in 1998.
Melonie undertook her studies at the University of Newcastle, completing her B. Architecture (Honours) in 1997. Upon graduation Melonie founded Liquid Design whilst also working in several small architectural practices in Newcastle and Sydney until 2003. After gaining registration in 2002, Melonie changed the practice name to Liquid Architecture.
As well as working in practice, Melonie has most recently taught Construction in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, UTS (2007), as well as teaching Interior Design Construction and Documentation at The Whitehouse Institute (2004) and working as a Design Tutor in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Newcastle (2000). She has also worked in the area of research, assisting Professor Barry Maitland on several projects in 1996 and 1997.
Melonie is a corporate member of both the RAIA and NAWIC, and is a past Chair of the RAIA Upper North Architects Network. She has been involved with several RAIA NSW Chapter committees including Continuing Education and Member Services Committees and SWIPE. Melonie is currently participating in the RAIA/NAWIC Constructive Mentoring scheme as a Mentor.
Melonie was appointed as an examiner for the Architect’s Registration Board of NSW in 2007.
Stephen
Gray
B.Sc.(Arch.) B.Arch.(Hons) RAIA Nominated Architect NSW 7351
Stephen Gray is a director of Liquid Architecture and joined the practice in 2000.
Stephen undertook his studies at the University of Newcastle, completing his B. Architecture (Honours) in 1998. Upon graduation Stephen worked briefly in small practice, and then turned to private work as a sole practitioner before joining Liquid Design as a partner in 2000. Stephen gained registration in 2005, and is the Director of the Newcastle office.
Apart from his architectural studies, Stephen completed the NatHERS energy assessment training course in 2002.
Stephen is a corporate member of RAIA and has been a Mentor for the RAIA Student mentoring scheme since 2006.
